I'm Laura. This is Project Eco.
Since childhood I have spent every summer by the ocean.
I'm drawn to the power and beauty of the Atlantic and adore the Cornish coastlines.
It wasn't until I was older that I realised the ocean is something we have to actively protect. That it wouldn't always be this beautiful if we carried on living this way. Every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic find their way into our oceans. Having a baby significantly increases the amount of plastic waste you produce, it's in disposable nappies and it's in disposable wipes.
I launched Project Eco whilst on maternity leave, after my son Jackson was born. He spent the first nine weeks of his life in hospital where due to the circumstances, cloth wasn't an option for us from birth. However on returning home the amount of waste piling up in the waste bin quickly horrified me. I also discovered how ineffective disposable nappies were at containing newborn poo explosions and began the hunt for an alternative. Disposable nappies and wipes are largely made of plastic, this is something that isn't advertised or widely promoted by the brands that sell them.
When researching cloth nappies I soon ended up down a black hole, with so much advice available (some conflicting) it was hard to know where to start. The biggest barrier was that cloth was far from mainstream, if anything I was given more advice against using cloth nappies. What about all the washing? The leaks? The mess?
Not deterred I slowly built a stash and realised how much better cloth nappies are in every way - for your wallet, your little one and the environment. I wanted to do more though. When doing my research I found a lot of the main nappy retailers stocked US or Australian brands, which were fantastic but I wanted to support UK brands where possible. I decided I wanted to create a space showcasing the best of British cloth nappy brands along with friendly, helpful advice on switching to cloth to help parents get started without breaking the bank. Project Eco was born.
Here you will find a beautifully curated range of cloth nappies from UK brands, along with useful accessories for your cloth nappy life. We would love to help you on your cloth nappy journey, whatever stage you're at. Please contact us if you have any questions or if we can help.
